Escaping the Chaos: The Bathroom is Mom’s Survival Magic
I didn’t Disappear, I’m in the Bathroom
I don’t know about y’all but sometimes when I’m in the thick of my day, I disappear from the chaos surrounding me…the thousands of mammas, mamma, mummy!
I didn’t run away.
I didn’t lose my mind (most of the time).
I’m in the one place I can get a few minutes of peace.
I’m in the bathroom.
And by bathroom, I mean the one in the master bedroom. For extra precaution I close the master bedroom door and lock it, close the bathroom door and lock it and sometimes I even turn on the bathroom fan for white noise, lol, THEN close the door to the toilet room (is that what’s it’s called?) and lock THAT door.
Reboot
And no, I don’t need to use it. I only need a few minutes to hear my own thoughts and collect myself. Kind of like when your phone glitches and you need to restart it to work properly again. That’s what I need, a quick reboot so I can stop glitching, or maybe it’s twitching, lol.
Since I’m behind so many closed doors no one can ask me a question. No one can hand me a snack wrapper. No one is saying my name seventeen times in one minute. I’m not saying they aren’t walking around the hallway outside the door ready to pounce the minute I open it, that’s why all the doors are closed, and the fan is on so I can’t hear it.
Sanity Saver
As a mom, I hope you can relate, and I want you to know it’s okay. Sometimes we must step away for a few minutes no matter what ages your kids are. Of course, if they are too young to be left alone by themselves make sure they are safe before you retreat, but there is nothing wrong with it in the least. Some of those “quick bathroom breaks” save a mom’s sanity and allows you to continue to have fun. Take a deep breathe, tell yourself you got this, wash your face and get back in the ring to battle, I mean tackle the rest of the day.
The bathroom isn’t always about privacy. Sometimes, it’s about survival.
It’s where I can quickly regroup after:
- Being needed by everyone at the same time
- Explaining something that should not need explaining
- Cleaning a mess I didn’t make
- Repeating myself calmly when I no longer feel calm
Mamma said if you need a break, take it where you can get it.
Mamma said it’s okay to step away before you lose it.
Mamma said locking the door doesn’t mean you love them less.
If I disappear, I’m in the bathroom.
And honestly?
That’s me doing my best.
