Teenagers, They Just Don’t Understand

YouTube, Blogs and Kids, Oh My

My oldest son and I apparently do not see eye to eye on how our videos should be edited…teenagers, they just don’t understand.

Not only did I start this blog at My Mamma Said but I started a family YouTube channel called Raising the Reagans. I also have a channel set up to go along with this blog (no videos yet). Raising the Reagans is much more about the chaos of having a big family (6 kids if you don’t know that yet…and I homeschool them all. I am with them all.day.long) so it is meant to be more about the kids and the chaos of it all. I mean, it’s hard to think around here 85% of the time.

This blog right here is for me, to share with you, who I am and what I like to do. I have so many ideas for this blog that y’all are going to love. Funny stuff about parenting, being a mom and having a big family, crafting, who knows what else I’ll share here. I may even have digital images for Cricut projects and printing projects that you can download. I have so much I want to do! And it’s been bottling up for years. (squee)

Video Editing

Back to why I even started typing this new post. I have an idea about commentating the family videos. I’m thinking if I set the scenes for what the kids are doing and seeing my facial expressions, hand movements and hearing the southern accent it will make it that much funnier. I can visualize the finished product in my mind and I was so excited to share it with someone. My husband, Rich, was not home at the time so I told my almost 17 year old. Now, let me set this scene up….he’s a teenager. Is there anymore explanation needed? haha, Seriously though, he has a very successful YouTube channel for game and Windows optimization. He also just created an optimization program that can do some neat things to your computer in the background to make it run more efficiently. Super cool and kudos to him and his channel with over 7k subscribers. But y’all, when I told him what I wanted to do with these videos he was dazed and confused. See, he’s not my target audience, you are, LOL. He’s a TEENAGER and he actually asked me with a confused look why I would want to do that. I tried to explain it 3 different ways and I had to stop talking. Alright boy, you do you and I’ll do me. We’ve been together a long time so he knows when to walk away, haha. (no rudeness or disrespect, we just know our limits with each other)

Ultimately, I want to add video segments of me as if I’m retelling what happened, but the best part is I have actual video of what happened. It’s kinda my thing with my friends so I’m gonna roll with it. He has a very analytical, engineering mind so I can see that there are some things we just won’t be able to collaborate on, even behind the scenes. I’ll stick to asking him about the SEO of it all and growing the channel because he’s done a phenomenal job with that.

Teenagers, They Just Don’t Understand

The boy, as I like to call him online, mainly because right now he doesn’t want his identity revealed until he reaches 10K subscribers on his channel. He doesn’t want to ruin his big reveal and I respect that. I feel like I keep digressing, apologies. With my idea for adding video of me setting up the scenes I need a microphone. I have a really soft voice so I need a booster and my equipment is a little outdated from my earlier days of having an online business before yougin’ number 5 (he bout did me in y’all). Anyway, the boy has this nice microphone that I wanted to give a try to see if it’s something I want to purchase for myself. I asked him if I could borrow it to try it out and do you know he had the audacity to hesitate! Like he don’t want me using his stuff.

I said, “Are you serious? Boy, don’t you use my roof, my internet, my FOOD? I brought you into this world and I’ll take you out.”

Now, that might have been a little over reaction on my part but it was truly all in fun, haha. He let me borrow it even though I really don’t think he cared for it. Good news for him, I don’t like it and it didn’t work well for me cause I need the boom mic right next to my mouth to get the best sound. His looks really cool on my desk though. It’s also been about 24 hours since I asked to try it out and it’s still sitting here. I guess it wasn’t THAT big of a deal. 🙂

microphone-at-desk

I finally got my equipment to work on my laptop so I’m back to my over the ear boom mic. It might be time for an upgrade, especially if this whole YouTube thing is successful (wink, wink). Amazon anyone?

It’s relatively quiet in the house so I can hear my own thoughts so I shall get back to the video editing.

Hey y'all, I'm a homeschool mom to 6 kids. I like to write, crochet, love all things Mickey Mouse, dabble in Cricut crafts and anything else I put my mind to or see on Pinterest that I love. My favorite thing I like to do is make people laugh, especially other moms. Life is chaos, I live it everyday and boy do I keep it real. Like I tell my friends....Teenagers to Toddlers, it's pure chaos y'all!
