What is Tajin? It’s this Mexican Seasoning with a Unique Flavor Blast

I was a little hesitant to even post this because what does seasoning have to do with being a mom or crafts or whatever? Then I read an article online that if you write it, you should post it. Within reason of course. Since I have no idea exactly what this whole blog niche will be specifically I figured, hey, why not?

Have You Heard of It?

I’m not here to post a recipe or anything but have you heard of a seasoning called Tajin? (If you’re wondering how to pronounce it, watch this short video on YouTube.) I had never heard of it and as I was walking through BJs getting groceries with the girls this colorful bottle caught my eye.

I stopped and said, “Hmm, what’s this? Tajin? What is Tajin?”

Then my oldest daughter said, “Oh, I saw someone on YouTube talking about Tajin and they put it on ice and eat it. Some people even put it on fruit.”

Okay, the ice thing is weird, but I decided to do what any sane person would do…Google it. The internet gave me this headline: What is Tajin Seasoning and Why You Should be Using It. Whoa, my daughter has heard of it, the internet told me I needed it and there was post after post talking about Tajin. So, you bet your sweet chili peppers I put that bottle in the buggy. Okay, you might call it a shopping cart. LOL

What exactly is Tajin?

It’s this awesome seasoning made of chili peppers, sea salt and lime. As soon as we got home and unloaded the groceries, I made my way to the bottle of Tajin and did a little taste test. I will admit that when you taste the seasoning alone the lime flavor can be a bit strong as the lime can be overpowering, however; when you add it to food, any food, it.is.TASTY!

What food can you season it with?

Anything your little heart desires. This is the beauty of freedom of choice, you can put it on anything you feel like needs a flavor boost.

I’ve tried it on all sorts of dishes/foods:

black-beans-with-tajin

  • Shredded chicken
  • Tacos
  • Noodles in olive oil
  • Chicken tenders
  • Chicken burgers
  • Fried rice
  • Eggs
  • Chicken wings…and the ranch
  • Fries
  • Chicken salad

Yep, we eat a lot of chicken. Once I even put Tajin on hibachi chicken. That sounds weird, I know, and I felt like a criminal mixing two different food cuisines. It was good though and I’d do it again, y’all!

Should you try Tajin too? And where can you buy it?

It’s low on the spicy meter and if you like lime, then yes, definitely get a bottle to try (or as we say where I come from…git you sum). You won’t regret it. Please note, I mentioned that if you like lime, get it. However, it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. I love this stuff and I put it out at almost every supper next to the salt and pepper. I sprinkle a little here, and a little there on my plate and do you know not one other person in this house uses it, not even on Taco Tuesday! I can’t even understand, who doesn’t want their tongue kicked with extra flavor? (Ha-ha)

Since I started using it, I keep seeing it everywhere. I’ve seen it at BJ’s Club, Food Lion, and Walmart and of course everyone’s personal favorite…Amazon. (This is a link you can use to buy the seasoning to try it without even leaving your house. The price is the same and I’ll earn a little commission. You can read the full boring, yet necessary, legal disclaimer here.)

Let’s Talk

Have you tried Tajin? Are you going to try it? Leave a comment below and let me know what your go to seasoning is. Is it Everything but the Bagel Seasoning? That’s another good one! Or leave a comment just to say hey to let me know you came to the page.
